I replaced all the old (leaky) capacitors a few days ago and the new parts are still making a needed burn-in. I'm curious to see, i.e., how my italian Meddle cassette sounds with this older deck.īut it's not still ready to seriously play. Maybe not as "neutral" as the usual ones, but it might be a really pleasant listen. and after I did swap its own (poor quality!) original heads with something much better (and modified the circuit accordingly) it also finally has some nice and brilliant treble as well! it has a warm emphasys on bass and lower bass. Out of these two vintage decks i am working on lately, one has a special bass fullness on playback. Then it worths to at least make some tries and see. not only the tape itself but also how it works together with a certain deck. Patience is definitely a prerequisite for this task.well, yes. You have to find the right cassette, and then you need to find the right deck to pull the optimal sound out of it. Seems like these pre-recorded cassettes are a bit of a moving target. I'd be interested to hear the differences, Vince, or at least what your opinion is. Patience is definitely a prerequisite for this task. The B965MF (or M), and the recent B565MH, are still the benchmarks to beat, though, and it doesn't look like an easy task to really beat them. I am loving them to simply use to record and listen to music, but I should soon make a few transfers 'cause I am curious to see what they can do with a pre-recorded cassette. one is from 1979 and the other is from 1981. Might try to tackle some of my other stuff first, my list is so friggin' long if I don't start now I'll never do it Happy Holidays everyone!ĭuring the recent lock down here, I am finishing restoring, modifying and setting up a couple more "vintage" decks which are proving to be true monsters in recording but they are also very interesting in playback, even if with a more vintage touch in the sound. Other than these it would be good to try the MFSL cassettes but I have serious doubts about their worth and a number of them are digitally sourced.Brilliant stuff Ian and Lenny, really appreciate these. They are all most likely to be found in Canada or the USA and some of them could easily turn out worse than what I have already transferred so I would want to either borrow them, quick turnaround guaranteed, or find them cheaply (in case anyone has time to do some browsing on their national eBay). A fine example of what can be achieved with the cassette format and it has superseded the US 1st edition, which was previously my favourite version.įinding and transferring five more tapes would probably wrap up my efforts to create a definitive collection. I'm really pleased with how lennyif's tape has come out.
PINK FLOYD UMMAGUMMA CASSETTE TAPE FULL
I feel like I have come full circle a year into this project with this cassette because Meddle is where it all started for me.
